It took me a long while but i got there- if one person finds this useful it is a win!

Covers DealerTool, a discussion on TuneECU (they have good guides on their website already i didn't feel the need to duplicate) and highlights the differences between DealerTool, TuneECU and Triumph Software, oh and covers Throttle Body Balance

Dealer tool said that if there was any strong community 'wants' to be added to DealerTool then they could look into it- so if people make a shout about what more they want from DealerTool they might consider it in future versions- e.g Throttle position sensor adjustment and/or idle speed control stepper adjustment for calibration and a few more sensor readings would suit me nicely

Oh and if anyone knows better than I (which is very likely) about what Target values various sensors should be at- e.g. volts and wants to let me know then i can add it to the guide :-)

Happy tinkering

G'day Daniel,

Great work on the Weebly Schedule Maintenance System for the TBird.

In the Electronic Control Module section where you have the Triumph Tunes Tables:

For 1600 engine without SAI inclusive of aftermarket exhaust, you advise a 20309 tune, whereas it should be a 20359 tune; also

for 1700 engine without SAI inclusive of original exhaust, advised a 20361 tune, whereas it should be a 20360 tune.

Cheers Alex

Oh thanks for that- you legend!

I've done my best but clearly I'm not beyond making mistakes. And great people like you that help me improve it for the benefit of all.

Although i live in the UK now, i've lived almost all my life in Auz. So from one cobba to another- thanks :-)

I'll make the changes now

Hello,
Question - Do you have to have dealer tool in order to check the service engine light? Or can you check it with just the Tune ECU software?

Sorry, not sure as i haven't started using TuneECU as I have been focusing on other things. But from what i understand on their website it can give you fault codes.

lets hope someone comments with more TuneECU experience than I. I can say that dealer tool definitely does.

Yes, it will give you the code # and the fault is listed in the service manual. When you start tuneecu plugged intot he bike it will display the code on the bottom taskbar. I can't remember if tuneecu shows you what the fault is but i don't think so, just the code #. Been a while, but it may give you a one word description, i just can't recall. But i think i had to use the service manual to find what the fault code number tuneecu showed meant. If you don't have the manual PM me with the code and i'll look it up 4 u.

No!! You can use a standard code reader [alittle bigger then a pack of cigarettes and is available on line for around 40 bucks] which works with all OBDII systems.I carry one in my saddle bag just in case, myself,or someone else I should run across on the road, has an MIL illuminated. All ya do is plug it into the ALDL connector plug, located under the right side cover, turn the key on,[engine off] and "WOLA", the code is illuminated. Then ya just refer to in the little book that comes with it which tells ya what sensor it is that the code represents.

OBDII is OBDII,no matter what the vehicle is that your checking. And,you can clear it right then and there by simply pushing the clear button. Sometimes, when a code appears, it's only temporary and after it's cleared, may or may not return. But the bottom line is,ya now ,atleast, know what sensor is setting the MIL,so ya now know where to look. Ca pishe??? Dave!!!

OBDC codes are only standard for certain fuel and emissions parms, everything else is up to the manufacturer - including the connection protocol of which there are at least a dozen. A good reader will work out what its trying to connect to as well as have a decent database of manufacturer specific codes.

I can not speak for other countries and or their regulations regarding emissions standards, only what we have here in the States. If it's sold here,it MUST COMPLY with OUR regulations/standards.I believe the gentleman in question here lives in the states. If not, then I misread his post, hence my apologies!! Our ODBC II standards are the same as yours as they originated in the states. As the rules were made in the late 90s with late 90s technology in mind, the controlled datasets only cover about 20% of the data a modern vehicle will produce, so as I said, only certain data items are covered by the obdii standards - anything on top is propriatory, except in Europe where you have to publish interfaces to all your systems to comply with fair competition regs - which is how the criminals got enough data together to be able to steal keyless cars with odbii "dongles". Another thing we can thank the EUSSR for.

Thanks I used the tune ECU software to determine the problem....
A vacuum line popped off. I plugged it back in and the bike ran fine. Ran the software again and cleared the service engine light.

Rule of thumb: When you have a problem, such as the check engine light popping on,or a malfunction in the performance of the vehicle in question, and before ya hit the panic button,ALWAYS,give the machine,or whatever the vehicle is that you're working on, a good visual.Had you done that, you would have seen the disconnected vacuum line, reconnected it,and the light would have cleared itself after a few starts, and the over all engine performance would have returned to normal. So remember that for future problems as it'll save ya a shit load of aggravation. Don't ask how I know!!! DUH!!! Dummy Dave!!!
